Shane van Gisbergen has been excluded from today's qualifying session and will start this afternoon's 200km race from the rear of the grid at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400.

Van Gisbergen was deemed to have run two warm up tyres on the rear of his Darrell Lea Commodore and two green tyres on the front during the 20-minute qualifying run, which is against the rules.

It's another hit in a difficult weekend for the Kiwi driver, who missed the majority of two practice sessions yesterday with a nasty vibration in the car.

The team was playing catch-up in today's session and it has gone from bad to worse for the 26-year old who sits fifth in the Championship.

He is yet to win on the Townsville street circuit, with only five drivers having stood on the top step in the history of the event.

Chaz Mostert took ARMOR ALL Pole Position ahead of his Pepsi Max teammate Mark Winterbottom for this afternoon's race.
