Van Gisbergen equals McLaughlin, Tander

Victory in Tasmania has seen Shane van Gisbergen equal the win tallies of two greats.

Race 3 victory at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint was van Gisbergen's 56th career win.

The reigning champion raced from fifth to first in the race, which was his fifth win at Symmons Plains.

It drew van Gisbergen level with Scott McLaughlin and Garth Tander, who are on 56 wins each.

McLaughlin (Tailem Bend) and Tander (Bathurst) took their last wins in 2020.

Van Gisbergen has since won 16 races, having won 14 in 2021 and the 2022 season opener in Sydney.

One more win for van Gisbergen, and he will also usurp McLaughlin as the successful New Zealand Supercars driver with regards to race wins.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver is now also two wins away from matching Tander's 56 wins in Holdens.
