The Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight got off to a thrilling start, with Shane van Gisbergen winning his 14th race of 2021.

It marks the 10th teams' title for Triple Eight Race Engineering, and its first since 2018.

The Holden squad won its first teams' championship in 2008, and reeled off seven in a row between 2010 and 2016.

Van Gisbergen won his 14th race from 29 starts, and now has one hand on the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship title.

Only Scott McLaughlin (18 in 2019), Craig Lowndes (16 in 1996), Mark Skaife (15 in 2002), Garth Tander (15 in 2007) and Whincup (15 in 2008) won more races in a season.

Van Gisbergen will carry an extended 349-point lead into Sunday, and has nine-and-a-half fingers on a second drivers' title.

His Race 29 win ensured van Gisbergen is unbeaten in 250km races in 2021; he swept the Repco Mt Panorama 500 and NTI Townsville 500 events.
