Red Bull looked set to clean-sweep the weekend in Tasmania again, but late race chaos threw a spanner in the works for the Triple Eight team. But even before those last five laps, Symmons Plains delivered with hard-fought racing, close-as-ever qualifying and a milestone Holden victory on Saturday.

Who was your best at the second Championship event? Vote now and comment below.

Shane van Gisbergen – Red Bull Racing Australia

Red Bull newcomer van Gisbergen was strong across the weekend, taking Saturday’s win, which was Holden’s 500th victory. If it wasn’t for some spilt oil, he most likely would’ve taken two from two, the championship lead and posed a real case as early favourite for the 2016 title. Van Gisbergen was understandably devastated after the end of the race, but team boss Mark Dutton says they’ll focus on speed and the positives of the weekend moving forward.

Will Davison – Team Darrell Lea STIX

“It’s not as easy as … just jump in a Triple Eight car and away you go,” Davison said on Saturday morning. But he managed to master the VF Commodore, finishing third that afternoon and winning yesterday’s race. He lost ARMOR ALL Pole Position in unusual circumstances and showed consistent speed across the weekend. Now the challenge will be showing that speed throughout the season, as he heads to Phillip Island as championship leader.

Mark Winterbottom – The Bottle-O Racing

The champion showed he wouldn’t yield to aggressive van Gisbergen off the start of yesterday’s race and was awarded both pole positions on the weekend. He admitted he found a weakness in the car the team would work on moving forward, and managed to jump from 11th in the Championship to fourth with his performance over the weekend.

Lee Holdsworth – Preston Hire Racing

After strong showings in both qualifying sessions, seeing him start fourth and fifth, Holdsworth delivered the new-for-2016 team’s first top 10 race finish. Though it was just his third race meeting in the Triple Eight car, Holdsworth was able to extract speed and team boss Charlie Schwerkolt is positive about continuing to move forward in the coming events.
