Todd Kelly will jump behind the wheel of Rick's Nissan Altima at the KL Street Challenge and says he won't go easy on his brother's V8 Supercar.

The team has elected to send Rick's race car to the event - which runs from August 7-9, the week following the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint - with the #15 set to leave from Sydney on Tuesday August 4 with four other V8 Supercars.

Each of the five manufacturers will be represented at the event, though Nissan is the only team sending an active race car, with Holden, Ford, Volvo and Erebus utilising spare cars for the event.

Todd - the only V8 Supercars driver who can boast a round win in Asia, having won in China when the category raced there in 2005 - is looking forward to the experience and getting the chance to take his brother's Altima for a spin at the new street circuit.

Rick was unavailable to drive in KL as he will be at Silverstone in the UK as part of Nissan's GT Academy program.

"I'm actually jumping back in the Jack Daniel's car, Rick's car - which he's not too happy with!" Todd said.

"I'll be flogging it around the streets of KL. It's a miniature race between all the manufacturers, so there will be five drivers and cars over there for the event and it will be on for young and old.

"I'm still waiting to find out whether they're going to take Bargs [Jason Bargwanna, driving standards observer] or any of the stewards over, so there might be a few black marks up the side of Rick's car."

Five crew members will travel with Todd to Kuala Lumpur, with Scott Sinclair to engineer the #15 race car. While Sinclair fills the role of team manager at Nissan Motorsport, he is a former Championship winning engineer, having run James Courtney in his title-winning year at Dick Johnson Racing.

"It's great for ...the six of us here from Nissan Motorsport that we will get to go over and experience a new city, a new culture, a new race track and try and learn as much as we possibly can while we are there," Todd said.

Todd drove a Jack Daniel's backed V8 Supercar from 2008 with Perkins Engineering, behind the wheel of a Holden then a Nissan, until the end of last year.

The 35-year old, who sits 11th in the Championship, recently reflected on his win in China with v8supercars.com.au and emphasised how important it was to really maximise the chance to compete overseas.

"To be able to go back to Asia again and experience a new track, a new country and culture, is another really good thing - and not just for the drivers," Todd told v8supercars.com.au last month.

"That's one of the things I'm really passionate about - going to a new circuit, trying to learn it as quick as you can - but for all of the staff in the teams.

"In our team we've got a lot of younger staff that have not really had their eyes opened to different countries around the world, so to be able to take them overseas to a new country to experience all that stuff as a part of their job in our sport is a really good thing to do as well."

Todd spoke positively about the buzz the KL event this year and as a Championship round next year had generated, with the team's sponsors interested in what was to come.

"[To] see what we're going to do this year - and get a little bit of a feel for what we're about - makes it easier to be able to roll in for the actual race event and hit the ground running [in 2016] as far as them knowing what our product is and what we can offer," he said.
