Tickford Racing has revealed the first Indigenous Round livery of 2023, with James Courtney to run a bold new look in Darwin.

Courtney’s #5 Snowy River Caravans Mustang has had a makeover ahead of next week’s betr Darwin Triple Crown.

The June 16-18 event is the second official Indigenous Round, with the concept debuting in 2022.

All teams must run a special Indigenous livery to commemorate the event.

The Snowy River Caravans livery is the first of the 26 Indigenous-inspired liveries to have been unveiled for the event.

The Courtney livery has been designed by North Queensland artist Jedess Hudson.

In a move away from the standard teal, black and white, the #5 Mustang will carry orange.

Hudson’s work is centred on the nomadic nature of Indigenous people, rich cultural heritage and deep connection to the land.

“Our people were fishers, hunters and gatherers who harvested only for subsistence, ensuring that resources were maintained and not depleted before moving with the next season to another location,” the Cairns local explained.

“It is somewhat ironic in my mind that, thousands of years later, one of the items that many Australians tick off on their bucket list is a journey across the width and breadth of their land, following in the footsteps of our ancestors.”

Courtney, who is chasing his first Darwin victory, added: “The cars looks brilliant and Jedess has evoked a sense of movement and freedom, symbolising the nomadic spirit that has been an integral part of Indigenous culture for thousands of years.

“That spirit and freedom is also embodied in the Snowy River Caravans brand. It's fun, adventurous and the artwork on the car for Darwin reflects exactly that.”

Snowy River Caravans CEO Andrew Crank added: We’re honoured to showcase this incredible artwork on the Snowy River Mustang and celebrate Indigenous culture as Supercars head to Darwin.

“We hope that through this collaboration, we can contribute to the preservation and celebration of Indigenous culture while promoting a spirit of unity and respect.”

Courtney is 20th in the standings heading to next weekend’s event at Hidden Vally Raceway.
