Supercars can confirm the Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint and ITM Auckland SuperSprint will go ahead in the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship as originally announced in the season calendar.

The confirmation today ensures Supercars will race internationally for the first time since 2019 at one of the most exciting circuits on the calendar, Pukekohe Park Raceway.

It also means Sandown will host its 52nd championship event, the most of any circuit in Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars history.

Both events will go on sale through Ticketek on Tuesday (21st June) and will feature on track action from Friday to Sunday on both occasions.

The Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint will run from 19-21 August at the historic Melbourne circuit and the ITM Auckland SuperSprint will run from 9-11 September.

Gates will be open for fans on all three days of both events.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said a lot of work has gone in to ensure racing returns to New Zealand this year and he’s thrilled fans can now begin planning for two huge weekends of racing.

"We understand there has obviously been a lot of rumours about these events, which is why we are happy to put them to rest today and move forward with planning," Howard said.

"I would like to thank Tātaki Auckland Unlimited for their ongoing and unwavering support for the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

"Getting to New Zealand in 2022 was one of our key objectives and even with international freight challenges, we have a plan in place that will ensure our passionate Kiwi fans get to see the best touring car category in the world back at Pukekohe.

"We’d also like to thank the Melbourne Racing Club who host the Sandown event. We can’t wait to write another chapter into Sandown’s proud history of racing."

Defending Supercars champion, proud Auckland native Shane van Gisbergen, said he’s thrilled to see racing return to Pukekohe where he is a two-time Jason Richards Memorial Trophy winner.

"It’ll be awesome to return to New Zealand," van Gisbergen said.

"They’ve been starved of Supercars for a couple of years so I can’t wait to go back.

"The crowd will hopefully be big and the support is always awesome, I’ve missed racing at home in front of those fans."

The Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint will include the Dunlop Super2 and Dunlop Super3 Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series and Aussie Racing Car Series on its support card.

The ITM Auckland SuperSprint will feature the Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series, Central Muscle Cars, Historics and Formula Ford.

Tickets for both events can be purchased from Tuesday through Supercars.com and Ticketek.
