Backing up Saturday victory with Sunday success marks a key turning point in Cam Waters’ time at Tickford Racing.

Waters won races on both days at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint.

The Tickford spearhead defeated Shane van Gisbergen in Races 13 and 15 by mere margins of 0.4s.

The results bookended a win for van Gisbergen, who overhauled Waters in Sunday’s first race.

For just the second time in his career, Waters won two races on the same weekend.

Last year, Waters won the first and third races in Townsville, but finished 11th in the middle race.

Crucially, Waters’ Winton wins were bookended by a solid run to second behind van Gisbergen.

It was the best career weekend yet for Waters, who joined Tickford full-time in 2016.

"It’s really cool,” he said of his double-win weekend.

“Most of the time since I’ve been here we’d have a good day and get a podium or a win, but we wouldn’t be able to back it up the next day.

"I feel like this weekend’s been the first time we’ve been able to do that.

"It’s definitely a good feeling.”

Waters denied van Gisbergen charges on both days, signalling his ability to withstand pressure from the Kiwi.

It comes after Waters held off van Gisbergen in Tailem Bend and Townsville last year.

Critically, Waters was able to convert one-lap speed into race pace, and executed three brilliant starts.

Waters was even able to hold off van Gisbergen, who took three tyres, in the finale.

Van Gisbergen still has a hefty points lead, but a “massive” weekend has Waters wanting more.

"Obviously it’s been a massive weekend for us, and it’s a huge thanks to the team,” he said.

"We’ve been working super hard in the background to improve our race pace.

"We’ve been stepping up every round and I think this weekend everything just aligned and we made it happen.

"The car was speedy when we rolled her out and we got quicker and quicker across the weekend which was awesome."
