Team 18's unique family road trip

Team 18 owner Charlie Schwerkolt is traveling to this weekend’s Beaurepaires Tasmania SuperSprint in style, enjoying a father-daughter road trip in the team’s race transporter.

Both race cars and team equipment were hauled from the shipping port in Davenport to Symmons Plains, with Charlie’s daughter CJ coming along for the ride.

CJ captured footage of the journey, while her dad had his first drive in the new Kenworth truck.

Sharing a photo of the pair to his Instagram account, Schwerkolt wrote: "@cj.schwerkolt and I taking the @teameighteenracing hauler to Symmons Plains. Can’t wait for the weekend!"

The team’s regular driver Mark Nelson completed the first leg of the journey from their home base in Victoria to Port Melbourne earlier this week, before Schwerkolt climbed aboard for the final 110km stint to Symmons Plains.

Taking delivery of the custom-built hauler in February, the new truck can pull two trailers containing Mark Winterbottom’s #18 IRWIN Racing entry and Scott Pye’s #20 DEWALT Racing Commodore around the country.

Ahead of the third round of the Repco Supercars Championship, Schwerkolt reflected on Team 18’s previous results at the circuit.

“I’m excited to go back to Symmons Plains this year,” Schwerkolt said.

“We missed out last year but in 2019 Frosty had the pole position there, and I’m keen to see if he can do it again.

“But I reckon Scotty will be up there threatening as well.”

Hunting his first podium with Team 18, Winterbottom has enjoyed an impressive run at the Tasmanian circuit, finishing all 40 championship races he has started at the venue.

He has also recorded 30 top 10 finishes, and claimed a win at the track in 2010.

Winterbottom is currently fifth in the standings with teammate Pye in 14th.
