The possibility of a date change for the 2016 Sydney 500 has been confirmed but any alteration to the Homebush street circuit has been hosed down by V8 Supercars as pure speculation.

Tonight on Inside Supercars, the panel discussed a potential 'redesign' to the 3.42km street circuit - designed by regular IS panelist Mark Skaife prior to the first race in 2009 - touting transport options to the precinct and better viewing for the fans as possible reasons for change.

However, V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said tonight there was currently no plans to change the Sydney 500 layout.

"While we have been open about the desire to bring the Sydney 500 date forward to November, at this stage the rest is purely and only speculation," Warburton told v8supercars.com.au.
