If you enjoyed Shane van Gisbergen's sliding celebration around the track last year then you'll love watching Australia's best drift stars take to the track on Friday and Saturday night after the V8 Supercars.

The category headlines a diverse undercard that clearly features a bit of everything.

Porsche Carrera Cup Australia

Nick Foster is in a league of his own, nobody really got close to him in Townsville and now he's shooting for five straight race wins. He should be winning the championship but a mixture of bad luck and bad choices has left him down in fifth.

Steven Richards leads the points at the half way mark but this title fight looks set to go all the way to the last round in Surfers Paradise. Craig Baird and Richard Muscat sit behind Richards and need to start pulling some points back this weekend.

Australian GT Championship

AGT is a bit like Powerball, it's impossible to pick the winning number and there's millions of dollars on the line.

Add to that the fact you have some of the world's most beautiful cars in the hands of drivers with extremely varying degrees of skill and a championship that is ultra close right now (30 points cover the top three) and you have two 60-minute races seriously worth watching this weekend.

In a classic case of 'good news/bad news' Glenn Seton's 17-year-old son Aaron will make his debut in a Porsche 997 GTR-3, while sadly Greg Crick - currently third in points - has called time on his stellar career, I'd like to wish the 2006 series champ all the best.

CAMS Jayco Formula 4

We're seeing the beginning of a rivalry that could last decades. Just like Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom in 2002, Jordan Lloyd and Thomas Randle are in the early days of a battle that could span their careers. They've been at it for three years already and now are fighting for the inaugural Formula 4 crown.

My advice is get onboard this story now while it's on the ground floor and in 10 years you'll be able to say, "I remember these blokes fighting in F4!"

For the record, Lloyd has four race wins to Randle's one win so far and a 40-point lead.

Aussie Racing Cars

One of the V8 Supercars highlights from SMP last year was when the boys tried to go four-wide into turn one at the start of the first race. If that's possible in the 'main game' imagine what the little Aussie Racing Cars will try! Ten wide?

The car count and slipstreaming is similar to something you'd see at the Daytona 500, I'm not sure who is going to win but I bet it will the car who comes off the last corner in second or third.

In terms of the championship, Brendon Pingel has a handy advantage over Adam Uebergang. They'll be at the front this weekend with Sydney-based teenager James Abela.

Chad's Fast Four

* Weather: SMP is built next door to a reservoir, which is smart because it rains regularly out there - 90 per cent chance of rain on Sunday they reckon.

* Porsche: If it does rain, bet the proverbial house on Craig Baird, he hasn't won a race in 12 months but his last win was a clean sweep at this track in the rain.

* AGT: Safety Car risk is much lower than previous rounds, which is good news for the pros. Mies, D'Alberto, Lester and Antunes will fight for the win if it stays green.

* Drift: It might only be a demo but the drift guys are going to seriously throw down. My tip is keep an eye on Beau Yates in his mental 500kw Toyota 86.
