The Supercars grid is en route to New Zealand for next weekend’s ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

Cars were transported to Avalon Airport in Melbourne on Saturday.

There, cars were placed in specially-designed double stack car racks.

Victorian teams loaded up and flew out on Saturday, and Queensland teams on Monday.

The operation has been handled by Gibson Freight.

It is the only flyaway round of the season, with cars travelling via transporters to local events.

Supercars is one of several notable freight operations out of Avalon, including the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

Air freight has also previously been used for races in Asia, Middle East and USA.

Each car competing in the ITM Auckland SuperSprint is allocated one support equipment container.

Once arriving at Auckland Airport, cars will be loaded onto trucks and taken to Pukekohe.

The cars and containers will be unloaded at the circuit on Thursday.

Supercars will be on track on all three days of the September 9-11 event.

Pukekohe Park Raceway will host its 15th and final championship round.

The historic Auckland circuit made its debut in 2001, and was the first ever international championship round.

Pukekohe Park Raceway will cease motorsport operations in 2023.

Supercars has, however, committed to racing in New Zealand next year and beyond.

Teams will have a four-week turnaround after Pukekohe to the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Teams will complete test days prior to the October 6-9 Mount Panorama event.
