The 2021 Australian Formula Ford Championship winner will earn a test drive in a Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang Supercar.

Dick Johnson Racing announced a new partnership with Formula Ford, which has long been a steeping stone for a number of key Supercars names.

Supercars champions Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander and Jamie Whincup all claimed Formula Ford titles, along with the likes of Will Davison, David Reynolds, Nick Percat, Chaz Mostert, Cameron Waters, Jack Le Brocq, Anton De Pasquale and Thomas Randle.

Every Supercars championship winner since 2003 has raced Formula Ford at some point in their career.

Davison and De Pasquale are the current pilots of DJR’s two Shell Mustangs.

The last Formula Ford champion, Angelo Mouzouris (pictured in 2019), is currently a hopeful for the 2021 Dunlop Super2 Series title.

The Mustang Supercar test drive will take place at Queensland Raceway early in 2022.

"It’s important to recognise and foster development pathways in Australian motorsport, and to that end, we are delighted to support the Formula Ford Association,” DJR chairman and CEO Ryan Story said.

"Formula Ford has always been a great development ground for drivers, and we look forward to supporting the championship throughout the 2021 season.”

Formula Ford Administrator Phil Marrinon added: "We are excited and thankful for this very generous offer from DJR that will no doubt be an even greater incentive to all our competing drivers in this year’s series."

Tom Sargent won the opening round of the 2021 season at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this month.

The next round of 2021 Australian Formula Ford Championship will be contested at Wakefield Park Raceway across 22-23 May.

The Repco Supercars Championship field will return to Victoria for the Winton SuperSprint across May 28-30. Tickets are available here.

The event will be broadcast live on Foxtel and will be streamed on Kayo with highlights on 7 and 7 Plus. Check out the weekend schedule here.
