Jamie Whincup says his record-smashing sixth Championship win won't really sink in until he is an old man in his rocking chair. But, since he has quickly become V8 Supercars royalty, the Red Bull racer got the chance to sit on a pretty special throne today in Sydney.

To celebrate V8 Supercars' move to Foxtel next year, Whincup had the opportunity to sit on the infamous Iron Throne from the ever popular TV series, Game of Thrones. And while it is in Australia, it will be on display at the V8 Supercars grand finale, the Sydney NRMA 500 from December 5 - 7.

The fantasy series has a colt like following with millions of viewers tuning in around the globe to watch the season four finale in June.

Now 'Thrones' fans and event goers alike will have the rare opportunity to snap themselves sitting on the notorious throne across the grand final weekend.

Whincup will officially be crowned the 2014 V8 Supercars Champion and surpass the greats, being the first man to secure six titles on Sunday 7 December but not until the final race of the year wraps up.

The 31-year old mathematically stitched up his win on the Saturday at Phillip Island, but is focused on putting in a strong performance in Sydney, where he will be formerly awarded the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship trophy.

"Everyone's asking me, but it hasn't really sunk in yet," Whincup told v8supercars.com.au.

"I think about 15 per cent of it will sink in after Sydney when we can finally relax and reflect on the year we've had.

"And to be honest, I think the other 85 per cent is going to come in about 30 years time when I'm old in a rocking chair with the slippers on and I look back at my career.

"Right now, we're in the heat of the battle - we're just trying to do ourselves proud and that's what Sydney is about ... I'm obviously aware that it's happened, but as far as the value that comes with winning six Championships - wait until the end of the year, but I don't think it's until 20 years time when I'm going to appreciate it."

Winning Saturday's second race at Phillip Island meant he sealed the Championship in the best possible form - but the Red Bull racer said crossing the line first in that final Sydney race isn't the vital thing for him, as long as he and the team do the best they are capable of.

"It's important to put in a good performance, whatever that is on the day," he said. "We want to do well in Sydney. We'll be disappointed if we drop the ball."
