Tim Slade has been handed a grid penalty for Race 5 over his qualifying incident with Shane van Gisbergen.

Slade and van Gisbergen collided in the dying stages of ARMOR ALL Qualifying for Sunday's finale.

Points leader van Gisbergen, on a fast lap, caught Slade on the back straight.

The two cars interlocked through Turn 6 and went off near pit entry.

Slade and van Gisbergen managed to return to the lane, with the session declared early.

Van Gisbergen still did enough to qualify third, having earlier secured pole for Race 4.

Slade qualified ninth for Race 5, but his fastest time was invalidated and he dropped to 10th

That becomes 13th following the application of a three-place grid penalty; Mark Winterbottom, Jake Kostecki and Scott Pye all gain a spot.

The report reads: "A 3 Grid Spot Penalty for Car 3, Tim Slade, in Race 5 for impeding Car 97, Shane van Gisbergen, at Turn 6 as a result of which contact occurred and both Cars sustained damage and the Session was Red Flagged.

"A review of broadcast footage revealed that Car 3 had aborted its flying Lap at Turn 4 but failed to get out of the path of Car 97 at the entry to Turn 6 when Car 97 was on a flying Lap.

"Because Car 3 caused the Red Flag, its fastest time in the Session is deleted in accordance with the Rules such that the 3 Grid Spot Penalty is applied by reference to the next fastest time set by Car 3 in the Session."

Erstwhile points leader Chaz Mostert, who slumped to 23rd in Saturday's race, was also penalised.

Mostert was found to have impeded Andre Heimgartner in the same session, and drops one position to 20th.

He will start 16th for the earlier race; it ensured Mostert missed a top 10 grid spot for all three races.

The report reads: "A 1 Grid Spot Penalty for Car 25, Chaz Mostert, in Race 5 for impeding Car 8, Andre Heimgartner, at Turn 4.

"A review of judicial camera footage from Car 8 revealed that Car 25 was not on a flying Lap on the approach to Turn 4 and impeded Car 8 on its flying Lap."

Cars will return to the track for the 44-lap Race 4 at 1:00pm AEDT.

The NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint will close with Race 5 at 3:55pm AEDT.
