Daniel Ricciardo has turned laps in a Ford Mustang Supercar during a flying visit to Detroit.

Ricciardo is Oracle Red Bull Racing’s third driver in Formula 1 alongside Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

The Australian joined Verstappen and Perez when it was announced that Ford would return to F1 in 2026 as a power unit partner.

Red Bull’s F1 team will be powered with Red Bull Power Trains from 2026.

Ricciardo lapped a Mustang Supercar at Ford’s Michigan facility, M1 Concourse, on Thursday (AEST).

The 33-year-old was joined by Ford CEO Jim Farley.

“I’ve driven pretty much every Ford under the sun, and just got out of this bad boy right here,” Ricciardo said in a short video posted by Ford Performance.

“Bit of Aussie in me, a little bit of a V8 Supercar, here in Michigan which is far from home, but I felt at home in it.

“It was a lot of fun. A big thanks to Ford for having me out here today, it’s been a blast.

“I’ve enjoyed my first visit to Detroit and I’ll be coming back, that’s for sure.”

Last year, comedian Jimmy Fallon was taken for a ride in the same car by Farley.

The Mustang running wasn't Ricciardo's first taste of Supercar machinery, although it was his first laps in a Ford.

Back in 2019, the eight-time Grand Prix winner turned laps in Rick Kelly’s Nissan Altima.

He also drove Triple Eight's Sandman VF Commodore at Sandown in 2016 alongside Jamie Whincup.

Ricciardo's Michigan laps come after former F1 rivals Perez and Fernando Alonso cut laps in Supercars last year.

Perez and Alonso took to the Albert Park circuit aboard a Red Bull Ampol Commodore and Thomas Randle's Castrol Mustang respectively.

Supercars will return to Albert Park on the F1 undercard for the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400, with races to be held on all four days.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle on March 10-12.

Tickets are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
