Randle fan gets heartwarming surprise

Thomas Randle has treated cancer patient Michael Arkalis to a moment he will never forget at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Randle, who is in remission from testicular cancer, surprised Arkalis with a weekend at Mount Panorama.

Supported by Randle’s family and Tickford Racing, Arkalis joined the team in pit lane for the weekend.

Arkalis enjoyed behind the scenes access during the event, which ended in victory for Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth.

Arkalis, 23, first met Randle at a ride day held for cancer survivors earlier this year.

“This has been the best experience of my life,” said Arkalis, who has been battling brain cancer for most of his life.

“I can’t thank the Randle family enough and Tickford Racing, they have been amazing.

“I have had the best time of my life; I’ve got to see things that only people that own a race team get to see.

“I’m just having the best time. Thank you so much, I really appreciate everything they have done for me.”

Arkalis also joined Chad Neylon for a tour of the television and commentary compound, along with 2021 Mike Kable Young Gun Award winner Matt McLean.

Randle, who celebrated six months since he completed his last round of treatment for testicular cancer in July, shared his delight about the weekend on his social media accounts.

"Was so cool to share the weekend with @michael_a1997," Randle wrote.

"I met Michael earlier in the year at our @petermaccancercentre ride day at Sandown, he has been fighting the big C for his whole life.

"Thank you to my family, Tickford Racing and Supercars for giving him an experience he will never forget.

"Also, a shoutout to the Monster girls for making a TikTok with him, check it out."

Courtney and Randle combined to finish seventh in the Great Race, overcoming an early setback when Randle beached himself in the Turn 1 sand.

Randle will make his full-time debut in the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship with Tickford Racing at the Repco Newcastle 500.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released on Sunday.
