Randle and Holdsworth clash wheels on lap 1

Thomas Randle has branded his lap 1 incident with Lee Holdsworth as "awkward contact".

Randle and Holdsworth clashed on the opening lap through Turns 2 and 3.

It came after Randle checked up behind Jack Le Brocq exiting Turn 1.

Holdsworth made heavy contact with Randle's Castrol Mustang, with the Penrite Ford lucky to avoid further damage.

Both cars made it back to pit lane, only for the race to be suspended following a crash for Scott Pye.

Pye made heavy contact with pit straight wall following contact with Le Brocq.

Speaking during the race suspension, Randle suggested there was no malice in the Holdsworth clash.

"It started with Le Brocq; we were fighting over the same piece of real estate," Randle said.

"I felt like I had a fair bit of overlap, and I rolled out of it.

"Then Lee's had a run and it's just awkward contact.

"Unfortunately for us, we're now a lap down.

"We'll see what we can do, we'll stay out and hope for another Safety Car."

Randle and Holdsworth lost a lap due to repairs, only for the race to be suspended behind the Safety Car on lap 3.

The race resumed after a 54-minute stoppage due to barrier repairs on pit straight.
