Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 red flagged for track repairs

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 has never seen it before - the field ofV8 Supercars lined up single file on the front straight, while teams hurriedly make changes and drivers cool down.

The cause of the problem is turn two - part of the circuit surface is starting to break up and will be resealed before the race continues.

There's 100 laps to go around the 6.2km circuit.

Teams can work on cars on the grid, though they cannot make driver or tyre changes. Brake discs and pads are being changed, as well as starter motors for cars 7 and 33, and repairs to 22, which seems to have had ongoing wiring issues.

While it wasbelieved Red Bull Racing would change the tailshaft in Jamie Whincup's car, after a drama he thought could end their race, team boss Mark Dutton confirmed they did not change anything, given there was no definite race restart time.

The car leading the way has only completed two stops - David Russell in the Nissan shared with Rick Kelly - with Dean Canto (Dave Reynolds), Steve Johnson (David Wall), Tim Slade (Tony D'Alberto), Ant Pedersen (Andre Heimgartner), Craig Lowndes (Steve Richards), Jack Perkins (Cam Waters), Todd Kelly (Alex Buncombe), Will Davison (Alex Davison) and Scott McLaughlin (Alex Premat).

It's expected there are just over five minutes to go before restart.

More to come from Mount Panorama.
