Team 18 has revealed the Nulon Racing Indigenous livery Scott Pye will carry in Darwin and Townsville.

It comes after the team uncovered Mark Winterbottom’s IRWIN livery on Friday.

The artwork on Pye’s Nulon Commodore has been designed in collaboration Nulon and GH United, a Mackay-based Memorial Rugby League team.

Mackay-based Indigenous artist Debbie Thaiday and her family designed the artwork.

The family of Thaiday, of DT Trait Designz, is from Iama & Erub Islands in the Torres Straits.

The artwork pays tribute to the late Gail Hine and Grace Hoffman, who both passed away from a Brain Aneurysm in 2009.

The main features of the artowkr reflect Hine and Hoffman's Torres Strait heritage.

Monday also coincides with what would have been Hoffman’s 60th birthday.

The artwork was designed to help raise awareness for Brain Aneurysms.

"We recently designed the supporter shirts for the GH United rugby league team for the annual Mackay Indigenous Rugby League Carnival, and we’ve replicated this story of GH United in the indigenous livery for the Nulon Racing team,” Thaiday said.

"My husband is a cousin of Grace and Gail and we’ve been a part of GH United since it started in 2010.

"It’s awesome to see our artwork on a Supercar and I can't wait to see the car racing on track in Townsville.

“It’s a very proud moment to represent the story of GH and I know the family are very excited as well.”

Hine is represented by a butterfly on the roof, with the larger turtle representing Hoffman.

The dots running through the artwork represent Brain Aneurysm; the burgundy colour incorporated into the dots is the colour for Brain Aneurysm Awareness.

A totem for each woman in the form of a Torres Strait Island Pigeon and Crocodile are also incorporated.

The black tip reef shark and crocodile are the totems of the family of Thaiday.

The four yellow frangipani flowers represent the four children of both Hine and Hoffman.

Significant Torres Strait Islander drawings also feature throughout.

Included are the Dhari (traditional Island headdress), Warup (Island Drum), Lumut (drum) and Gor (used for traditional dancing).

GH United and DT Trait Designz will also support Team 18 at the NTI Townsville 500.

Nick Moss, Ball & Doggett and PPG Paint brought the livery to life.

Pye added: "The Nulon Racing indigenous livery looks absolutely incredible and it will be sure to stand out when we hit the track for the first Supercars Indigenous round in Darwin.

"We are so proud to get behind a cause that Nulon are involved with at a community level and to carry the livery across to Townsville will be really special for the GH United team and the family of Gail Hine and Grace Hoffman.

"We’ve all been working hard since Winton so we can’t wait to get up to Darwin and put our best foot forward and show off this awesome livery on track."

Pye is 18th in the standings heading to the Hidden Valley round.

The 2022 season will resume in Darwin on June 17-19. Purchase your tickets now.
