Heated words between Brown and Winterbottom

Motorsport Australia has confirmed the post-race garage incident at Pukekohe has been referred to stewards.

Mark Winterbottom and Will Brown clashed in Sunday’s first race at Pukekohe.

Brown fired off the track and made a 56g impact with the barriers.

The impact dislodged the barrier, triggering a red flag.

Brown was winded, albeit unhurt, and returned to Erebus Motorsport’s garage following a visit to the medical centre.

After the race, Winterbottom, Brown and Erebus CEO Barry Ryan were involved in a heated discussion.

Prior to the discussion, Winterbottom had stated his role in the incident wasn’t intentional.

Brown and Ryan remonstrated with Winterbottom, given the damage to the car and nature of the incident.

The accident left the #9 ZB Commodore with heavy damage.

It also raised questions over the team’s Great Race wildcard of Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway.

However, the damaged car is likely to be repaired in time for the October 6-9 Repco Bathurst 1000.

The statement reads: "Motorsport Australia can confirm that Race Director, James Taylor, has referred the incident which occurred in the Erebus team garage involving members of the team and a competing driver following Race 28 of the Repco Supercars Championship at Pukekohe to the Motorsport Australia Stewards.

"The Stewards will consider this matter and make any appropriate determinations in the coming weeks."

The 2022 season will resume in Bathurst next month.

Tickets for the Repco Bathurst 1000 are available on Supercars.com and Ticketek.
