Frenchman Alexandre Premat this afternoon released a statement confirming he will not drive for Garry Rogers Motorsport this season.

“After examining my driving options both here and overseas and having had discussions with Garry I have decided to explore other avenues and I have informed Garry that I will not be driving for GRM in season 2014,” the statement read.

The team transforms to Volvo Polestar Racing for 2014. Premat – who has been with the team since 2012 – has long been in doubt for the seat alongside Scott McLaughlin.

The former DTM driver last month told v8supercars.com.au he wanted to remain with the team and identified qualifying as a key weakness. He finished the season 19th in the Championship, compared to McLaughlin in 10th on debut, with fourth at the Clipsal 500 his best race result.

Fans will be able to see both Volvo S60s on track at the Sydney.com V8 Supercars Test Day at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 15.

UPDATE January 7:

Team boss Garry Rogers has responded to the vacancy within the team, releasing a statement in response to the announcement of Alex Premat’s departure.

“Following Alex’s announcement not to remain with GRM for 2014 I will now investigate the driver opportunities available for our team,” Rogers’ statement read.

“As you would expect I am continually being contacted by drivers both locally and internationally seeking the opportunity to join the V8 Supercar Series.

“I will now have discussions with the senior members of my team and then after completing that I will make a decision that I believe will present the best opportunities for our team, sponsors and fans.”
