V8 Supercars racing is closer than it has ever been with cars separated by hundredths of a second, so many Championship contenders and every point meaning so much.

But as the competition gets tighter, are drivers getting less fired up than in days gone by?

At the season opening Clipsal 500, Shane van Gisbergen redressed a borderline move on the race leader that he felt was worthy of a penalty.

When raised on Inside Supercars last week, former champion and V8 Supercars hall of fame inductee Mark Skaife called Fabian Coulthard out on sitting on the fence about the incident, which could affect the way passing is viewed all season.

Twelve months ago it was Red Bull teammates Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes in Tasmania - Lowndes smiled it off and said a bump was inevitable with them both at the front. "When you've got two top drivers in the team together, eventually you're going to have some kind of collision or contact," Lowndes said.

Then there was good mates Michael Caruso and Scott McLaughlin at Ipswich. McLaughlin was annoyed about the Nissan's dive for the lead, but was also understanding.

"He had to have a go, I don't blame the guy for having a go, it's just one of those things," he said at the time. "It was just racing and I would have had a go in second place and we all make mistakes."

What would Russell Ingall and Mark Skaife have said? What about Greg Murphy or Marcos Ambrose?

Skaife and Ingall now sit side by side on FOX SPORTS but had one of the most explosive rivalries we have seen in V8 Supercars.

Murphy and Ambrose call each other 'mate' as the kiwi interviews the #17 driver, despite their Bathurst 1000 clash and pressure cooker press conference at the Gold Coast in 2004.

Which do you prefer - friendly, or fiery drivers?

Vote now and stay tuned to tomorrow night's Inside Supercars, where the panel will debate the question. Join the conversation with #V8SC and tell us what you think.

Greg Rust and Mark Skaife will be joined by Lee Holdsworth and Will Davison at 7.30 ADST on FOX SPORTS 506.
