Tickford Racing was "just a little bit off” in a trophy-less Sandown weekend, says team boss Tim Edwards.

Seventh in Race 25 for Cam Waters was Tickford’s best result on Sunday.

Tickford had three of its four cars in the top 10 in Saturday’s race.

Waters loomed to steal a podium in the finale before he made an error chasing Chaz Mostert.

A highlight was the resurgence of Thomas Randle, who was a fixture of the top 10.

It came just three weeks after Randle suffered a scary accident at The Bend.

“Overall it’s honest to say we didn’t get the results we hoped for, nor expected, this weekend,” Edwards said.

"It’s not like we massively underperformed, but we were just a little bit off where we probably should have been in the final results.

"We did have some decent results though, chief among those being Thomas’ two top 10s, that’s great for his confidence and good for his crew.

"Then obviously Cam made a mistake in the last race and Jake couldn’t get much to go right.”

Waters managed to retain second in the championship, but Shane van Gisbergen is now 500 points clear.

Tickford now heads to Pukekohe, where it last won with Mark Winterbottom in 2016.

“It’s fair to say we should have had a better weekend than we did,” Edwards said.

"That said, it’s car racing and there’s always plenty of those stories to go around.

“We’ll file this one away and see what we can improve on before heading to Pukekohe.”

Tickford Racing is third in the teams' championship behind Red Bull Ampol Racing and Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Supercars will return to New Zealand on September 9-11.
