Matt Payne has benefited from a late red flag to secure a second Super2 pole.

Payne secured ARMOR ALL Pole Position in Perth after the session was stopped and later declared.

An Elly Morrow error at Turn 6 was the cause of the stoppage, which helped Payne seal pole.

It was the Grove junior's second pole of the season, with Payne scoring pole in Sydney.

"I think the track rubbered up a bit from yesterday and the Soft tyres from the Supercars," Payne said.

"I didn't put new tyres on yesterday, so I didn't know what to expect.

"Obviously came out with it, and it was really good."

Points leader Zak Best will start 10th for Race 1, which will commence at 5:20pm local time.

Payne's flyer proved 0.19s quicker than Jaylyn Robotham's time, with Cameron Hill and Matt McLean third and fourth.

Aaron Seton, Angelo Mouzouris, Tyler Everingham, Declan Fraser and Best rounded out the top 10.

Kai Allen was the quickest Super3 runner, and will start 15th.

Morrow ran long into Turn 6 and beached her Steeline Commodore, triggering the stoppage.

The session was declared with 63 seconds remaining, helping Payne clinch top spot.

Best leads Payne by 30 points heading into the 26-lap Race 1.
