Steve Owen has topped the additional drivers’ session at the Woodstock Winton SuperSprint, ahead of fellow Prodrive co-driver Jack Le Brocq.

Owen pairs with Chaz Mostert for the first time and recorded a 1min20.3089 lap in the Supercheap Auto Falcon, just 0.0701sec ahead of Dunlop Series driver Le Brocq, in Cameron Waters’ car.

Dean Fiore in the Nissan Motorsport Altima split three of the Prodrive cars, with Dean Canto – who pairs with Mark Winterbottom this year – fourth.

“It’s a good way to blow the cobwebs out, go to the top,” Owen said, adding he felt comfortable in Mostert’s seat as the two pair for the first time.

The drivers adjusted to the newly resurfaced circuit, with Greg Murphy – steering in a one-off opportunity with Erebus – saying he had never experienced so much grip at Winton.

Murphy finished the session 18th in David Reynolds’ Commodore, and Russell Ingall won the commentator battle, ‘The Enforcer’ finishing fifth in Rick Kelly’s Nissan.

There was an issue for the TeamVortex Commodore early in the session, current Bathurst champ Steven Richards in the garage with a water pressure issue. The #888 recorded the 15th time.

Macauley Jones spent much of the session at the top of the times in Tim Blanchard’s car, and Richie Stanaway performed well in the Super Black Falcon – his first time driving a V8 Supercar.

“I really enjoyed it. First time driving a V8 Supercar competitively, just trying to get up to speed and get my head around it,” Stanaway said.
