Scott Pye has lamented power steering issues which prevented him from turning a lap in the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Pye and James Golding’s #20 DEWALT Team 18 Commodore retired with a power steering issue after six laps.

A leak in the power steering system on the #20 Commodore was found 30 minutes before pit exit opened for the race.

The team quickly replaced the steering rack, but Golding suffered a power steering failure on the second lap of the race and returned to the garage.

Team 18 mechanics replaced the steering rack again, but the issue was not repaired and the car was withdrawn.

"Unfortunately today was not our day,” Pye said.

“We had some dramas right before the start of the race where we suffered a power steering issue.

“We found some speed overnight but then those power steering issues played havoc as the race began so I never got in the car.

"We’ll be back next year and we’ll come back even better and stronger.”

Golding ran long at The Chase as the issue flared up, and managed to keep the car out of the concrete when he returned to the race.

"It was really sketchy on the first lap, the power steering failed coming down the hill and the steering locked up and I just kept it off the wall,” Golding said.

"The boys put another steering rack in and I had the same issue again at Forrest Elbow.

"It was an unfortunate way to end our Bathurst campaign but all we can do is focus on coming back next year."

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released on Sunday.
