Nearly half of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship grid will descend upon Newcastle’s Civic Park this Saturday as part of a Community Fun Day in the lead up to the season-opening Thrifty Newcastle 500.

The event – taking place just three weeks ahead of the popular street race’s highly-anticipated return – will be held at Newcastle’s Civic Park from 10:00am – 2:00pm AEDT, and will entertain fans with live acts, car displays, exclusive giveaways, and more, highlighted by a driver autograph session from 10:00am – 12:15pm.

Drivers Anton De Pasquale and James Golding visited the area on Friday, getting a glimpse of the construction progress coming along on the 2.64-kilometre street circuit on the eve of Saturday’s Community Day event.

Drivers also attending the free event include Bathurst 1000 winner Nick Percat, 2023 Supercars rookie Matt Payne, and Supercars race winners Will Brown and Jack Le Brocq.

Former Dunlop Super2 Series champions Todd Hazelwood and Bryce Fullwood will also be on hand.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: “The Thrifty Newcastle 500 will be a fantastic way to kick start our 2023 season, and the Community Fun Day is a tremendous way to excite the city of Newcastle for the return of Supercars racing to the city.

“There will be plenty of entertainment options around Civic Park from jumping castles to live radio broadcast, and fans of all ages will have the chance to meet some of their favourite drivers and win exciting prizes including a hot lap in a Gen3 Supercar and tickets to the Newcastle 500.”

“Fans will be able to use a wide range of public transport to get to Civic Park from all reaches of the Hunter Valley, and we encourage fans from around the region to visit Supercars.com to see which transport option is the best for them.”

“Our previous Community Day events in Newcastle have been a huge success in getting the city revved up for the Newcastle 500, and this year will be no different. We can’t wait to bring a taste of Supercars to Civic Park on Saturday ahead of our return to Newcastle in mid-March as the Gen3 era of Supercars gets underway.”

Supercars’ Community Fun Day ahead of the Thrifty Newcastle 500 takes place this coming Saturday, February 18, from 10am – 2pm AEDT in Newcastle’s Civic Park.

The 2023 Supercars Championship season kicks off three weeks later at the Thrifty Newcastle 500, March 10-12, where the new-for-2023 Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang will do battle for the first time.

More information on the Community Fun Day, which is free to attend and includes a wide range of entertainment options for fans of all ages can be found at Supercars.com.
