Chaz Mostert was pleased to see Cameron Waters take victory in the OTR SuperSprint finale, despite dropping more ground in the title fight.

Mostert and Waters both recorded DNFs in Race 10 after they were involved in an opening-lap incident.

Their cars were repaired by their respective crews ahead of Race 11, which Waters won from third on the grid.

Mostert started sixth, yet was only good enough for fifth, having scored a podium on Saturday in the rain behind Andre Heimgartner.

"I saw him out front, I was pretty proud of him,” the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver said of Waters.

“After the race we had before, for them to come out and get the win shows the hard work those guys put in.

"I wish I could have got a trophy for our guys in that last race, I have to thank them for fixing the car as they worked so hard right up until the last second I was leaving the lane.

“He got the trophy, he rewarded their guys. We’ve got to make a few more gains yet.”

Mostert was Heimgartner’s closest challenger on Saturday, and loomed to eat into Shane van Gisbergen’s championship lead.

However, van Gisbergen’s Sunday podium double, coupled with Mostert’s Race 10 DNF, means the 2014 Bathurst winner is now 246 points from the series lead.

It comes after Mostert entered Sunday 142 points down.

"Our wet weather car was probably the best car we had this weekend,” the 29-year-old said.

"We fought hard, [Race 10] was an absolute shocker, me and Cam getting taken out, me taking Cam out and stuff like that… it's been a crap weekend for us.

"Still a lot of positives, I think we had a top five car most of the weekend.”

Results of second, DNF and fifth were a bitter pill to swallow considering his last-start win in Tasmania, which was his first in two years.

With the Symmons Plains and Tailem Bend circuits vastly different, Mostert admitted there is still work to do to make his #25 Mobil 1 Appliances Online Commodore competitive at every event.

"It shows from Tasmania that what you require there is so different to what you require here,” he said.

"This place is so unique track. We’ll go back, we won't redesign the car… we will have to rethink when we come back again.”

The Repco Supercars Championship field will return to Victoria for the Winton SuperSprint across May 29-30. Tickets are available here.

The event will be broadcast live on Foxtel and will be streamed on Kayo with highlights on 7 and 7 Plus.
