The 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000 will go down as one of the fastest ever races.

Sunday’s race, which was won by Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth, was run in 6:15:06.195s

It now means 10 of the last 12 Great Races have been won in a time of less than six-and-a-half hours.

The exceptions are the predominantly wet 2017 race and the 2014 race which was suspended for an hour due to track repairs.

The 2018 race, won by Craig Lowndes and Steven Richards, was run in a record 6:01:44.863s.

Sunday’s race loomed to shatter the record; just one BP Ultimate Safety Car had been required through 105 laps.

However, the final 56 laps featured five Safety Cars, the first of which was called for a rogue echidna at the Cutting.

The race was completed at a pace which has it in the top five for fastest ever completed races.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released on Sunday.
