All drivers who qualified in the top 10 on Friday filled the top 10 positions in Practice 6.

The #25 Mobil 1 Appliances Online Commodore ended the hour-long hit out having topped four of six practice sessions.

Practice 6 of the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend was a tale of two stories.

The first half of the session was centred on race runs and pit stop practice, before the final stanza featured a dress rehearsal for drivers in the shootout.

The two Erebus Commodores ran first and third for the bulk of the 60-minute session.

Provisional pole man Will Brown clocked a 2:05.845s, before teammate Brodie Kostecki fired to the top on a 2:04.704s.

Mostert split the two Erebus entries on a 2:05.714s.

Teams cycled through race runs and conducted pit stop practice for the majority of the session.

With 26 minutes remaining, Tim Slade - who qualified fourth on Friday - jumped to second on a 2:04.574s.

All cars bar the two Erebus entries had primary drivers behind the wheel at the midway point of the session.

With 22 minutes remaining, van Gisbergen jumped from 19th to second on a 2:05.037s.

Nick Percat, who also clinched a place in the shootout, jumped to third on a 2:05.448s.

Anton De Pasquale also pinched the brakes at The Chase and sailed across the grass.

With 15 minutes remaining, James Courtney jumped from 20th to fifth, before Will Davison vaulted from 15th to third.

Van Gisbergen went fastest in all three sectors and clocked a 2:04.425s.

With six minutes remaining, Mostert did the same and went 0.238s quicker on a 2:04.187s.

The shootout rehearsals continued; De Pasquale chased the leading Commodores, but his 2:04.795s proved 0.6s down on Mostert.

Cameron Waters bowled a wide at Murray’s Corner on his lap, and could only rise to fifth.

Van Gisbergen ran again, and was just 0.036s down on Mostert’s time through Forrest’s Elbow.

The champion-elect went quicker on a 2:04.199s, but Mostert’s time held firm by just 0.011s.

Van Gisbergen in second through to Slade in 10th were covered by 0.9s.

Kelly Grove Racing also managed to return the #7 NED Whisky Mustang to the track following Matt Campbell’s crash earlier in the day.

Campbell completed five laps in the repaired car, and was 23rd on the time sheets all told.

"It's been a pretty fantastic car since we rolled out of the gate," Mostert said.

"It's just a pleasure to drive. I've had it for years over here where you have a car that's not quite right and you're hanging on.

"The car gives you great feedback, you can feel the tyre underneath the car.

"It's a real credit to WAU to give us a confident car rolling out."
