Members of the public will decide whether Scott McLaughlin adds yet another 2019-inspired piece of silverware to his burgeoning trophy haul.

It was a year to remember for McLaughlin, as he won a record 18 races, clinched his second title and became a Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 champion.

Having already been named as one of four finalists for New Zealand Sportsman of the Year as part of the upcoming ISPS Handa Halberg Awards, McLaughlin has now been nominated for an additional honour on the night.

The Shell V-Power Racing driver is one of 10 contenders for New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment of the Year for his Bathurst victory alongside co-driver Alex Premat in October, after holding off rival Shane van Gisbergen on the final lap of the Great Race.

The Favourite Sporting Moment category is the only public-voted prize of the ISPS Handa Halberg Awards.

“This award provides the avid sporting public with an opportunity to have their say on the moment that they will remember for years to come,“ said Halberg Foundation chief executive Shelley McMeeken.

Votes can be submitted once a day, from now until 9pm on February 13, via text message [for McLaughlin, text ‘SM8’ to 556] or online.

The 57th edition of the awards will be held at Spark Arena in Auckland on February 13.
