Craig Lowndes will step into a Formula 1 car in the lead-up to the VALO Adelaide 500.

Big names and famous cars will take to the Shannons Adelaide Rally Victoria Park Finale on November 26-27.

The event will come a week out from the Supercars season finale in Adelaide.

The likes of Lowndes, Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood will take part, along with classic F1 cars.

The rally — which will take place between 3:00pm and 4:00pm local time — will feature more than 300 cars across several categories.

More than $100 million dollars worth of iconic machinery will be on display.

Lowndes will get behind the wheel of a Footwork FA15 Formula 1 car during the demonstrations.

The seven-time Bathurst winner previously drove a Dallara F189 Cosworth at The Bend Classic.

He also famously drove a McLaren MP4-23 at Mount Panorama in 2011, the day Jenson Button clocked an unofficial 1:48s lap.

A headline Roll Race will run from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, with Lowndes taking to the circuit.

Lowndes will steer a Lamborghini Huracan EVO, Kostecki in Erebus Motorsport’s ‘Mercodore’ and Hazelwood in a McLaren 720S.

The cars will feature in a two-by-two contest down the front straight of the Adelaide Parklands Circuit.

There will be three Roll Race sessions, with a knockout format culminating in a head-to-head final Shootout of the two quickest cars.

Flashback: Lowndes' miracle Adelaide win from last

The city will then hold the 2023 Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 25-26, also at Victoria Park.

Lowndes won the very first Supercars Adelaide 500 in 1999 despite starting from last.

"The Shannons Adelaide Rally Victoria Park Finale is a significant event as it is the coming together of the Adelaide Rally, Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the Adelaide 500, in the first racing action on the iconic circuit since February 2020,” Shannons Adelaide Rally event director Tim Possingham said.

"It will be a great lead-in into the Adelaide 500 to get people revved up for the event, featuring everything from a Formula 1 car to a V8 Supercar to classics and exotics.

"It’s a free community event, giving the Adelaide motoring and motorsport community an opportunity to attend a non-ticketed event to celebrate the return of racing to the circuit.

"Our vision is to run the Adelaide Rally in the week before the Adelaide 500 going forward, with plans to expand on the Victoria Park Finale, while the Adelaide Motorsport Festival is locked in for the week before the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix."

The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will conclude on the Adelaide streets on December 1-4.
