Craig Lowndes is coming for the Championship lead. He went one better than his qualifying run in the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout, recording a 1min10.9596 on his solo run around the Gold Coast street circuit to start from pole position.

However, he faces a penalty after an incident with Will Davison in Qualifying to be resolved.

After the lap, the Red Bull racer admitted he grazed the wall at the back of the circuit, but that didn’t cause him to lose momentum.

Lowndes was second last out at the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 Top 10 Shootout after qualifying second in the morning’s earlier session.

And plenty unfolded during the shootout, with Michael Caruso losing his lap time for “failing to respect circuit limits”, Shane van Gisbergen barely driving a lap after flying all four wheels over the turn one chicane, and Fabian Coulthard excluded after failing to present at the scales.

At this stage, it leaves Lowndes/Luff on the front row with James Courtney/Greg Murphy alongside.

Holden Racing Team teammate Garth Tander, despite putting it on provisional pole, only managed third in the session, with Team HIFLEX’s Tony D’Alberto to start alongside. The two are pairing with Nick Percat and Jonny Reid, respectively.

From fifth, it’s Scott McLaughlin/Jack Perkins, David Reynolds/Dean Canto, Rick Kelly/Karl Reindler, Coulthard/Luke Youlden and van Gisbergen/Jeroen Bleekemolen in 10th.
