After a disastrous Saturday for Shane van Gisbergen at Hidden Valley, it was Fabian Coulthard’s turn to take a tumble in Townsville.
Qualifying down in ninth put the then championship leader into the mid-pack danger zone for the opening corners.
The Shell Ford was subsequently turned around in a five-car concertina involving James Moffat, Todd Kelly, Garth Tander and Tim Slade.
Onboards from each car involved, as well as the television footage, allowed officials to unravel the carnage.
Moffat was ultimately handed a 15-second post-race time penalty for triggering the incident, dropping the Garry Rogers Motorsport driver from 10th to 13th in the final result.
