Macauley Jones has been rocking a mullet for quite some time now but a new look is not far away – and it’s all for a good cause.

The Team CoolDrive steerer has put his hairdo to good use in getting behind the Black Dog Institute’s Mullets for Mental Health cause.

“The Black Dog Institute have a Mullets for Mental Health in September which has just started, so I decided to get onboard with that,” Jones said.

“I’ve had a mullet for just over a year now – I got it for the retro round at Sandown in 2019, so I thought I would continue it on and then I’ll get rid of the mullet at the end of the charity running in September.

“I thought I would try to raise some money in these tough times for a lot of people where it’s promoting mental health and the awareness of it.”

Jones, who headed to the Douglas Mountain Bike Reserve yesterday with teammate Nick Percat, is looking for better fortunes on-track at the Robson Civil Projects Townsville SuperSprint this weekend.

The 25-year-old’s first Townsville event last week was disrupted by being tangled up in the Saturday opening lap carnage, dropping him to 21st in the points.

Jones though has been turning in some fine qualifying performances of late and is eager to deliver, especially in front of his Dad and team boss Brad on Father’s Day this Sunday.

“I’ve always got my Dad behind me whenever I’m racing so it’s great to have him by,” said Jones.

“I love sharing a passion of racing with my Dad and getting to do it with him is something that I definitely will cherish and always look back on as well, from karting days to Formula Ford and onwards from then.

“I definitely wouldn’t want my racing to be any other way.”
