Third-generation racer Jett Johnson is determined to reach Supercars and add to his family legacy.

The teenager turned his first laps aboard a Supercar on Monday at Queensland Raceway.

An evaluation with the Shell V-Power Racing Team came after father Steven and grandfather Dick joined Jett on-track.

The three Johnsons steered identical liveried Mustangs, complete with the team’s iconic #17.

Jett, who turned 17 this year, is currently cutting his teeth in Trans Am competition.

He is currently 15th in the Trans Am series, and leads the TA2 Muscle Car Series.

Last year, he won a TA2 title; should his trajectory continue, a dream Supercars drive could eventuate.

"I want nothing more than to try to continue what both dad and grandad have done,” said Johnson, who will race at Winton next weekend.

"I know I have got to put the work in to get there.

"I have got to put in 110 per cent and try to stand out more than anybody else.

The youngest Johnson was joined by fellow young drivers Kai Allen and Tom Sargent at the evaluation day.

DJR Executive Chairman and co-owner Ryan Story reiterated how crucial the day was for the young trio.

While Jett is part of the DJR family, Story maintained the teen has to “earn” his way into Supercars.

"We hire the best drivers we possibly can,” Story said.

“But at the rate that he’s going, if he continues his success, he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.

"The thing that I really respect about Jett’s racing is that he hasn’t been pushed into it.

“It’s something that he has really wanted to do, and something that hasn’t necessarily been encouraged by the family.

"Every step of the way he has proven himself worthy and won races, and really done what’s required on-track."

The 2022 season will resume in Darwin on June 17-19. Purchase your tickets now.
