Brodie Kostecki’s gaze is firmly on winning races in his sophomore Erebus Motorsport season.

Kostecki finished his rookie campaign ninth overall, one place behind teammate Will Brown.

Brown had the measure of Kostecki in qualifying and race trim in 2021, and also won the team’s only race in Sydney.

It was Kostecki, however, who opened and closed 2021 with big exclamation points.

The 24-year-old scored a podium at Sandown in March, and finished third alongside David Russell in Bathurst.

Having had a taste of the rostrum, Kostecki wants to go even better in 2022.

“To finish off with a podium at Bathurst is awesome,” he said.

“But my mind’s on next year already. I want to be winning races.

“We’re slowly getting there, and we’ve been up the front a lot lately.

“Hopefully we can do a few more things and stay up the front.”

David Reynolds finished fifth overall in 2018, which remains Erebus' best drivers' championship result.

However, 2021 marked the first season that Erebus has had two drivers in the top 10 in the standings.

A topsy-turvy run in Sydney loomed to drop Kostecki out of the top 10, before he pieced together a smart race in Bathurst.

It could have gone haywire, with Kostecki making risky manoeuvres across the top of the mountain on none other than Cameron Waters and Shane van Gisbergen.

While disappointed to miss out on a maiden Bathurst win, Kostecki was pleased he could carry his confidence through the race.

“I didn’t give a crap, I just wanted to get to the front,” he said of his dicey overtakes.

“Jimmy Stone once told me, ‘Just get to the front and extend the lead’.

“I couldn’t quite get to the front, but I got close.”

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released during the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
