'Visibility wasn't bad': Mostert after remarkable podium

Chaz Mostert says his stunning charge from 26th to third in Sydney will give his team "some good confidence”.

Mostert scored his first podium since July’s WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint from last on the grid.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver was excluded from Race 25 qualifying over a technical infringement.

As rain lashed Sydney Motorsport Park, Mostert avoided the drama to claim his first podium in Sydney since 2017.

He notably emerged atop a spirited four-way battle with Tim Slade, Will Brown and Will Davison.

"The car was fantastic," he said.

"The visibility wasn’t too bad. I reckon the visibility is worse in the daytime when you’ve got the glare.

"A lot of fun, heaps of stories throughout the field, heaps of battles, back and forths.

"I don’t know how we got back to third."

Mostert retained fourth in the standings after the race, which was won by Jamie Whincup.

It came after Mostert struggled at last week's first Sydney event, where he finished sixth, seventh, and seventh.

"I put my head down and just got on with it," he continued.

"The boys had a good stop and yeah, we needed this because we’ve been struggling the last week or two. This will give us some good confidence.

"You try to do something different to the car in front. Sometimes it works for you and sometimes it doesn’t.

"Obviously today, a lot of times it worked out pretty good for me."

The season will resume next weekend with the BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint. Tickets for all Sydney events are on sale now.
