Just three drivers remain in the running to win the Beaurepaires Sydney Cup ahead of the final race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Shane van Gisbergen extended his championship points lead and Sydney Cup points lead with victory on Saturday.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver opened up his Sydney Cup points margin to 73 points.

Heading into Saturday, nine drivers were in mathematical contention for the Sydney Cup.

Jamie Whincup and Anton De Pasquale, who finished second and fourth respectively on Saturday, are now the only drivers who can steal the cup and cheque from van Gisbergen.

However, Whincup and De Pasquale will need a disaster by van Gisbergen - who is also in the box seat to clinch the 2021 drivers' title on Sunday - to claim Sydney honours.

Van Gisbergen only needs to finish 10th on Sunday to win the Sydney Cup and the $25,000 cash prize should Whincup or De Pasquale win Race 30.
