Having two drivers "on the same level" will aid Walkinshaw Andretti United’s title hopes, says Nick Percat.

The experienced Percat will join incumbent Chaz Mostert in a blockbuster WAU line-up in 2022.

It marks arguably the team’s strongest driver line-up since James Courtney took the championship to HRT alongside Garth Tander in 2011.

That year, Percat combined with Tander to win the Great Race, a feat repeated by Mostert six weeks ago.

WAU arms Percat with his greatest chance yet at becoming a consistent front-runner, something Mostert has largely been since he arrived at the team in 2020.

The next step for WAU is challenging for championships, something Percat believes is possible thanks to the team pairing together two marquee drivers.

Mostert wins in Bathurst last month

"The team want two guys who are pushing in the same direction and on the same level," former Brad Jones Racing driver Percat told Supercars.com.

"It’s extremely hard with Supercars being so competitive now, you can’t have one guy doing all the work.

"At BJR, I felt I couldn’t bridge the gap to the two-car team with two gun drivers.

"We want to get to a place where there are two of us that can fight for race wins, podiums and championships."

Percat was adamant that neither driver will be given preferential treatment, with WAU eyeing title glory following its Bathurst dominance.

However, WAU has already shown it is serious about vaulting both drivers to the front beyond Percat’s signing.

2021 season in 14 minutes

Last week, WAU scored the coup signing of engineer Dr Geoffrey Slater, who will skipper Percat’s #2 entry this season.

Mostert will remain alongside Bathurst-winning engineer Adam De Borre.

"Getting Geoff is massive," Percat said.

"I didn’t think he’d be available, I’m really excited. I know what it’s like to work with a top gun like [Andrew Edwards, former BJR engineer], and this is another step.

"I was already excited to join the team, but having Geoff onboard is unreal.

"I can’t wait to finally get to the workshop, sit in the car and get used to everything."
