Will Davison's Bathurst crash proved costly in a number of areas, and it also ended a brilliant streak.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver crashed out late on in the Repco Bathurst 1000.
It brought an end to the longest finishing streak by any driver on the 2022 grid.
Davison carried a 72-race finishing streak, dating back to Tailem Bend 2019, into Bathurst.
The veteran's previous DNF was due to mechanical dramas aboard his 23Red Mustang.
Davison wasn't full-time in 2020 after the 23Red team folded, and had been a picture of consistency in Shell V-Power colours.
The longest active finishing streak now belongs to series leader Shane van Gisbergen.
Van Gisbergen, who won Bathurst, last retired from a race in August 2020.
The Kiwi suffered a power steering failure in Townsville and was forced out of the race.
Van Gisbergen has since marched to consecutive title-winning form, largely in part due to his winning, but also his low attrition.
The current points leader was last forced out of a race due to damage in the 2020 Adelaide season opener.
Even then, that was largely in part due to a suspension failure late in the race while chasing a podium.
The 2022 season has also seen the end of Nick Percat's long finishing streak.
Percat's 63-race run, dating back to Townsville 2020, was halted due to the start-line crash at The Bend.
The #2 Commodore was caught up in the accident that also wiped out Thomas Randle and Andre Heimgartner.
Randle and Heimgartner didn't even get to race in Bathurst a fortnight ago, with their entries two of six cars to DNF.
James Courtney and David Reynolds' cars were wiped out in the Chase clash which also claimed the Heimgartner car.
Jack Smith was the sixth driver to fail to see the chequered flag at Mount Panorama.
Of the 25 drivers on the grid, 16 have now suffered at least one DNF this season.
Van Gisbergen can clinch a third drivers' title on the Gold Coast; conversely, he will race at a circuit with a high attrition rate.
No Gold Coast Supercars race, whether it be championship or non-championship, has ever had a 100 per cent finishing rate.
Supercars has raced at Surfers Paradise since 1994, and races have been for points since 2002.
At least one car in every race has failed to reach the finish.
Will that trend continue next weekend?
