Holdsworth shocked with podium from 15th

Lee Holdsworth was taken aback by an "amazing" run from 15th to the podium.

Holdsworth crossed the line third after a dramatic Race 7 at Albert Park, which was won by Shane van Gisbergen.

The 2021 Bathurst winner inherited third at the death after a late clash between James Courtney and Chaz Mostert.

It marked Holdsworth's first full-time podium since Sydney 2020.

With David Reynolds second, Grove Racing sealed its first double-podium finish in just its seventh start.

For Holdsworth, the breakthrough result was a "monkey off the shoulder" after a trying start to 2022.

"It's awesome. We didn't expect a double podium here," Holdsworth beamed.

"But to come from 15th to third is amazing. The car was good.

"It's a bit of a monkey off the shoulder; you come in with high expectations, but you've got to be realistic.

"Joining a new team, new engineer... it takes time.

"Hopefully it's starting to click, and we can keep improving from here."

The result comes as team owner Brenton Grove celebrates his birthday.

The Grove squad celebrated wildly as Holdsworth burst through the chaos at the final corner.

An elated Reynolds said he "couldn't be happier" for Holdsworth, who prior to Saturday, only had two top 10s to his name from six starts.

"I'm really happy for Lee," Reynolds said.

"That's a fantastic result, from 15th to third. I couldn't be happier.

"It's Brenton's birthday as well, so it's a good present for him."
