Shell V-Power Racing has suffered an early setback at its pre-Bathurst test day, with an incident for Alex Premat damaging the #17 Mustang.

The Frenchman went off at Turn 4 just over two hours into the day’s running at Queensland Raceway.

The car came to rest at the nearby Turn 2 with front-end damage, its front spoiler having been ripped off in the incident.

A team spokesman confirmed to Supercars.com that a brake problem had caused Premat to leave the circuit.

The brake pedal is understood to have gone to the floor as Premat approached Turn 4 at over 200km/h.

Officials towed the car back to the pits, with testing for all cars halted for approximately 30 minutes.

The #17 Ford is expected to be repaired and rejoin the test later in the day.

Supercars championship leader Scott McLaughlin had turned laps earlier in the morning, before handing over to Premat.

Shell V-Power Racing is running three Mustangs at the test, with Steven Johnson driving its spare car undertaking an engine evaluation program.

The Red Bull Holden Racing Team, Matt Stone Racing and Kostecki Brothers Racing are also at the circuit.
