Andre Heimgartner set the Practice 2 pace at The Bend Motorsport Park in a session punctuated by several offs and spins.

Kelly Grove Racing had its two cars in the top four, with David Reynolds recovering from a rotten first practice outing to slot in behind Heimgartner, Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Jamie Whincup and Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Will Davison.

Davison, with his initial 1:50.204s, loomed to top the 30-minute hitout once drizzle descended on the Tailem Bend venue.

However, the times began to fall, with Heimgartner pipping Whincup at the death with a 1:49.241s session-best.

The 10 drivers all dipped under the 1min50s bracket, with the top 15 covered by less than a second.

Several drivers were caught out by the greasy conditions, with James Courtney, who spun off in Practice 1, sliding onto the grass in the dying moments.

All three Tickford Racing entries hit trouble, with Jack Le Brocq finding the gravel, while Cameron Waters straightlined the grass.

However, he was displaced by Heimgartner, whose 1:49.241s proved the best of the session.

Chaz Mostert, who won the Symmons Plains finale last month, was fifth, albeit 0.416s adrift.

Courtney ended up sixth despite his late-session spin, ahead of Hazelwood, championship leader Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki, with Bryce Fullwood rounding out the top 10.
