Matt Campbell and the Groves are celebrating a gold medal for Australia in the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games.

Campbell won at Circuit Paul Ricard in France on Sunday, which resulted in Australia finishing in sixth on the medal tally.

The result also helped Australia win the Asia Pacific Trophy.

Campbell qualified his Porsche 911 GT3 R on the front row, and overtook Dries Vanthoor into Turn 1.

The Queenslander won by 1.6s ahead of Italian Mirko Bortolotti and Belgian driver Vanthoor.

It came hours after Grove Racing Supercars driver David Reynolds finished fourth in’ Race 32 on the Gold Coast.

Reynolds scored a shock pole on Saturday and finished second.

Champion-elect Shane van Gisbergen won both races.

“Really cool,” said Campbell, who recently won the GTD Pro class title in the 2022 IMSA SportsCar Championship.

"Definitely wasn’t easy, the pressure was on the entire way.

“Made it last, the gap was closing a bit at the end.

“Fantastic event, fantastic day… had the lead from Turn 1 and was able to maintain.”

It came just weeks after Campbell raced a Grove Racing Penrite Mustang in Bathurst with Reynolds.

Unfortunately, the car was wiped out early on with Campbell at the wheel.

Team Australia captain Stephen Grove and son Brenton also raced the Porsche at Paul Ricard, with Aaron Cameron 11th in the Touring Car medal race.

Valencia in Spain will host the next FIA Motorsport Games in 2024.

“Obviously we’ve raced against each other for many, many years,” Campbell said of the Groves.

“For us to come together and be in the same car… really cool to bring us together.

“It’s my last race in GT for I don’t know how long.

“Love to come back and try again next year."

The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will conclude on the Adelaide streets in December.
