The Gen3 prototypes have shared their first taste of Albert Park with current Gen2 racers.

The Gen3 Camaro and Mustang were lapped on Thursday morning prior to opening practice.

Zane Goddard was behind the wheel of the Mustang, with 2017 Bathurst winner Luke Youlden steering the Camaro.

The Gen3 cars featured in a morning ride session, which also saw five current-spec Supercars take part.

It marked the first time Gen3 and Gen2 cars had shared a race track at an official race event.

Will Davison and Tim Slade’s respective Fords cut laps, with Mark Winterbottom and Macauley Jones also taking passengers.

Jamie Whincup also piloted a spare Triple Eight car in Red Bull Ampol Racing’s 2022 race livery.

The two key figures from Ford and GM's Australian arms were both treated to hot laps.

Andrew Birkic, Ford Australia President and CEO, was first in the passenger’s seat in the Mustang.

He was joined on track by Marc Ebolo, Managing Director of GM Australia and New Zealand, who was in the Camaro.

Albert Park became the fourth circuit to host Gen3 action, with the cars turning laps at Symmons Plains last month.

In Tasmania, former champions Marcos Ambrose and Garth Tander completed their first laps aboard the new cars.

The cars completed the bulk of their testing at Queensland Raceway following their unveiling in Bathurst.

The cars will be taken to Phillip Island following the Albert Park event for two more test days.

Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 track action will begin on Thursday morning.

Two ARMOR ALL Qualifying sessions will be held on Thursday afternoon to set the grids for Races 6 and 7.
