The countdown to the new era of the Repco Supercars Championship is underway, with the Gen3 era officially launched in Sydney on Monday.

Four star drivers from the Chevrolet and Ford camps — Shane van Gisbergen, Mark Winterbottom, Will Davison and Chaz Mostert — gathered in front of media at the world-class setting of Sydney Harbour on Cockatoo Island.

Van Gisbergen, Winterbottom, Davison and Mostert combine for four drivers’ titles and seven Bathurst 1000 victories.

It comes just three weeks ahead of the season-opening Thrifty Newcastle 500 in NSW’s second-biggest city.

Also on display were the two biggest prizes in Australian motorsport: the drivers' champion trophy, and the Bathurst winners' Peter Brock Trophy.

Both trophies are held by van Gisbergen, who won a record 21 races en route to the 2022 drivers' title.

All 25 drivers will be present at the Official Season Launch event in Sydney on Monday evening.

The new Gen3 technical package offers one of the most unpredictable seasons in history.

All 25 brand-new cars have now completed track running, and will share a track for the first time at Sydney Motorsport Park on Wednesday.

From there, attention will turn to Newcastle, which is the setting to commence the 64th Championship season, and third with Repco naming rights.

The 2023 season will be run across 28 races at 12 rounds, including two endurance races — the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, and Repco Bathurst 1000.

There will be 14 Camaros and 11 Mustangs, with Mostert’s Walkinshaw Andretti United shifting to Ford in the off-season.

Foxtel will broadcast every practice, qualifying, Shootout and race of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship live and ad free for a ninth consecutive season.

Six rounds of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will be broadcast live on the Seven Network: the Thrifty Newcastle 500, Betr Darwin Triple Crown, NTI Townsville 500, Repco Bathurst 1000, Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 and season ending VALO Adelaide 500.

Seven’s events will all be streamed live on 7plus. Other rounds will have delayed highlights packages.

Sky Sport will bring every session to viewers in New Zealand across the Championship as they follow van Gisbergen’s campaign to bring home at a third consecutive drivers' title in 2023.

Tickets for the Thrifty Newcastle 500 are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
