Gallery: Spectacular Sydney under lights

Supercars' return to night racing at Sydney Motorsport Park made for some stunning images as Scott McLaughlin took the opening leg of the Truck Assist Sydney SuperSprint. 

Earlier, the combined Dunlop Super2 and Super3 grid competed with a vivid backdrop as the sun set at Eastern Creek.

Supercars.com has assembled a selection of pictures from the occasion; the first to involve the circuit's new permanent lighting. 

Dunlop Super2/Super3

Polesitter Thomas Randle leads the field away as behind Jayden Ojeda lines up a potential dive on Brodie Kostecki. 

The different generation Super2 and Super3 cars will share racetracks for the remainder of 2020.

Zane Morse ends up in the gravel trap after running wide at Turn 1, triggering the Safety Car. 

Brown completes his first Super2 win since Perth last year, also under lights.

With Super2/Super3 run and done, the stage was set for the main game to get underway.

Despite being on slower rubber than his rivals, McLaughlin managed to retain the lead into Turn 1.

Lee Holdsworth and Anton De Pasquale would emerge as his primary threats, both using a soft-soft tyre strategy.

Red Bull Holden ran their drivers on opposing strategies, with van Gisbergen eventually grabbing the upper hand and fourth place.

But no one could stop McLaughlin, who extended his points lead with his fourth win of the season to date.
