Despite being on slower rubber than his rivals, McLaughlin managed to retain the lead into Turn 1.
Lee Holdsworth and Anton De Pasquale would emerge as his primary threats, both using a soft-soft tyre strategy.
Red Bull Holden ran their drivers on opposing strategies, with van Gisbergen eventually grabbing the upper hand and fourth place.
But no one could stop McLaughlin, who extended his points lead with his fourth win of the season to date.
