Gallery: McLaughlin and Coulthard tee off

Shell V-Power Racing's Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard have taken their PIRTEK Perth SuperNight preparations to the driving range.

The pair, currently first and second in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, took to Joondalup Resort with West Aussie golfer Haydn Barron.

They step into their Ford Mustangs at Barbagallo Wanneroo Raceway on Thursday evening, ahead of night races on Friday and Saturday.

McLaughlin has won the last four races in Perth, across the 2017 and '18 events with the Shell-backed outfit.

Since last year's event, the 2.4km circuit has been resurfaced, which offers a curveball along with the shift to night running.

"I used to love how it was so abrasive and hard on tyres and I could look after them," McLaughlin said.

"But now it's completely changed. Everyone knows it's going to be a brand-new surface on track, we're going to see records fall and taken down. Hopefully we're at the front end of those.

"We've always been strong as a team, especially on new surfaces.

"I'm excited. I think it's going to be an awesome spectacle, not only for PIRTEK but for Perth and everyone to be part of the SuperNight event is very cool and exciting.

"Certainly for me now to race my second night race in a couple of years is very cool."
